The Oomiak team have a long history of working with fresh produce industry.
Our expertise includes ripening, pressure cooling, gassing and venting of produce, large scale hydro-cooling and general storage for fruit and vegetables.
These industrial refrigeration solutions work great to cool bananas, grapes, avocadoes, strawberries, berries, mangoes, broccoli, celery, lemons, tomatoes and much more. A few systems we use to achieve this are:
Tarpless Ripening Systems
MTX Ripening Systems
Oomiak has formed a strategic relationship with MTX Ripening Systems to bring their world leading tarpless ripening technology to Australia.
Established for over 30 years the MTX Ripening System has been adopted by many customers all over the world. With extensive presence in the United Kingdom, North America, Canada, South Africa and Europe, MTX continues to lead the way in fruit ripening technologies.
The MTX Ripening System has been designed with a number of fundamental design and user issues in mind such as energy efficiency, user friendliness, ease of loading/unloading, good lighting and safe and easy maintenance access. The result is a ripening system which is as hygienic in its appearance as it is practical and efficient in operation.
MTX tarpless systems have been installed extensively throughout the world.
Through its ongoing partnership with global ripening expert MTX, Oomiak’s skilled engineering and technical team continues to proudly serve the growing needs of fresh produce businesses in Australia and throughout South East Asia.

Certain products require tarped ripening refrigeration solutions.
Oomiak offer high energy efficient tarped ripening rooms in single, two and three tier.
All ripening refrigeration solutions offered by Oomiak:
- Improve fruit appearance without dehydration
- Enhance the colour, taste and quality of your fresh produce
- Are energy efficient and low maintenance
Optional features:
- CO2 monitoring and automatic purging systems
- Ethylene monitoring and controlled dosing systems
- Humidity monitoring and automatic humidification systems
Depending upon your requirements, Oomiak is in a unique position to provide both traditional tarped and also tarpless ripening solutions.
Forced Air Coolers (Pressure Coolers)
Selecting the best post-harvest cooling method for your fresh produce is the key to maximising quality, shelf life and value from your crop.
Achieving these objectives starts with fast removal of field heat directly after harvest. Oomiak offers two key types of forced air coolers.
Oomiak Fast Coolers
Oomiak Fast Coolers (OFCs) are designed to rapidly remove field heat and lower the respiration rate from hot or freshly harvested produce.
OFCs work by forcing chilled air through product stacks whether palletised or boxed. This ensures the heat is quickly and efficiently drawn away from the product without undue moisture loss. This is a more efficient and effective way of cooling than conventional coolrooms which simply cool the outside of a product stack.
The benefits are decreased wastage and higher quality which leads to greater profits per harvest.
Almost all fresh picked produce will benefit from the use of OFCs including tropical fruits, tomatoes, capsicums and berries.
Oomiak uses patented AFCM technology in the OFCs.
OFCs can be used on farm to remove field heat before storage or transport. OFCs can also be used by wholesalers and packing houses to cool before and after washing and packing processes.
Key Benefits
- Fast heat removal from produce
- Maintains high humidity and reduces product moisture loss
- Wide applications for fresh produce
- Can be used on farm or in pack houses
- Increase the value of your harvest by reducing wastage and extending shelf life
Oomiak High-Humidity Fast Cooler
Oomiak High-Humidity Fast Coolers (OHFCs) function in the same manner as the Oomiak Fast Coolers to rapidly remove field heat and lower the respiration rate from hot or freshly harvested produce. The main difference is that these units can operate up to 98% RH and work very well with products requiring greater than 90% RH. They can also be used very effectively in longer term storage rooms to provide these operational conditions.
OHFCs work by cooling the air, passing it through a cascade of chilled water to both cool the air stream and ensure maximum saturation. The air is then passed through eliminator pads and then forced through product stacks.
Whether palletised or boxed, the process ensures the heat is quickly and efficiently drawn away from the product without moisture loss. This ensures that you are not simply cooling the outside of a product stack, as typically occurs in a conventional coolroom.
The benefits are decreased wastage and higher quality which leads to greater profits per harvest.
Certain fresh picked produce will benefit from the use of OHFCs including tropical fruits, tomatoes, grapes and leafy vegetables
OHFCs can be used on farm to remove field heat before storage or transport and can also be used by wholesalers and packing houses to cool before and after washing and packing processes
Key Benefits
- Fast heat removal from produce
- Maintains high humidity and reduces product moisture loss
- Wide applications for fresh produce
- Can be used on farm or in pack houses
- Increase the value of your harvest by reducing wastage and extending shelf life
