The Oomiak Crew Spotlight series is back and in this edition, we’re travelling to VIC!
Our team is filled to the brim with enthusiastic, experienced, and skilled people – we’re excited to share their stories.
My Role in Oomiak
Since joining Oomiak in 2019, Shaun Laws has been a key cog operating within our Customer Service team in VIC.
“I’ve had the opportunity to work on some really exciting and complex projects throughout my time here at Oomiak – Baiada, Coles Ocado, and Newcold to name a few,” says Shaun.
Understanding that a key component of any project is customer relationship and satisfaction, Shaun makes this a priority to create a better environment.
“I believe that maintaining good relationships with our clients is way up there on the priority list. It’s great business practice and customer satisfaction is key – if they’re not happy neither am I. But further to this, when you go that extra mile and are doing your job right people are happy. That sounds simple, but it creates a great environment for everyone to work in which I think is pivotal,” says Shaun.
With this at the forefront, Shaun’s day is centred around providing the best service to our local VIC client base.
Best Thing About Working at Oomiak
“The best aspect about working at Oomiak is the diversity. Each day brings different sites, tasks, and responsibilities and it’s this escape from the mundane that really excites me,” says Shaun.
With over 12 years’ experience in the industrial refrigeration industry, Shaun is well-equipped to tackle a range of responsibilities that leave a positive impact on our day-to-day operations. Some of these include:
- Travelling between sites catering to breakdowns and maintenance works
- Ordering parts
- Quoting
- And more…
“Being in the industry for about 12 years now, I love that there’s still new things that I need to adapt to. Industrial refrigeration is such an important trade, the demand is high, the skillset is specialised and to be this far in and still loving every moment is a great bonus too,” says Shaun.
My Career Tips
If you’re not learning something new every day, you’re doing something wrong – a motto Shaun applies to his work and personal life daily. With this ever-learning attitude, Shaun has picked up valuable insights into how to succeed in the industry, these are:
1. Building relationships with each client
“Having a good relationship with our clients has been my most impactful lesson learned – going the extra mile and putting that extra effort in can give both parties so much. By applying this and taking the time to foster a relationship, I continue gain trust with the people I work with,” says Shaun.
2. Be adaptable
“Being adaptable is a must, there are lots of different scenarios where adaptability comes into play,” says Shaun.
For Shaun, this skill is utilised particularly when:
- Thinking outside of the box and finding new ways to do things
- Things don’t go to plan
- There are emergencies and accurate solutions are needed quick
“Being able to adapt to the situation at hand and use my knowledge in different ways has been a massive contribution to my success and performance,” says Shaun.
3. Keep your skills strong and always be learning
“There’s just no room for complacency. Keeping my skills sharp and in development is a big priority for me,” says Shaun.
Working often with potentially dangerous gases, in high voltage areas, confined spaces and more, Shaun places an emphasis on safety, knowing the right procedures and processes.
Hats off to you Shaun and keep up the great work!
