The first of its kind in Australia, Oomiak has designed and installed the refrigeration systems for two high-bay cold storage facilities for NewCold Advanced Cold Logistics in Melbourne.
NewCold is a Dutch-based cold storage and logistics company that have chosen Melbourne as its Asia-Pacific Headquarters.
NewCold – Melbourne 2 Chilled Store
- A fully automated 35 metre high chilled storage warehouse with 6 double satellite and 4 single satellite stacker cranes
- Footprint is 170 x 140 metres
- Total storage capacity of 110,000 pallets
- Storage area and loading docks at different chilled environment (+2°C, +8°C and +11°C)
- > 1,100 pallets shipment buffer zone so minimal waiting time for trucks before loading

The facility includes seven refrigerated areas including Chiller, Dispatch, Order Pick and Freezer. The total refrigerated space is 28,800m²
Oomiak’s work included the design and installation of refrigeration systems to support multi temperature rooms capable of operating at temperatures between +1.0°C and +25.0°C. The design of the system also allows for the addition of future plant and equipment to be installed support future low temperature high bay freezer storage, despatch and order pick operation.
The system installed has been designed to incorporate the most energy efficient technologies and benefits available including high efficiency compressors and motors, variable speed drives and specifically designed energy management systems.
Oomiak’s work also included the installation of the Wagner OxyReduct system. OxyReduct is a fire prevention system that makes sure that fires cannot develop in the first place by maintaining a depleted oxygen content within the High Bay storage area. This is achieved by the controlled introduction of nitrogen into the protected areas which keeps oxygen concentration levels consistently below the ignition threshold of the combustible materials inside.
