The first of its kind in Australia, Oomiak has designed and installed the refrigeration systems for two high-bay cold storage facilities for NewCold Advanced Cold Logistics in Melbourne.
NewCold is a Dutch-based cold storage and logistics company that have chosen Melbourne as its Asia-Pacific Headquarters.
NewCold – Melbourne 1 Cold Store
- A fully automated 35 metre high cold storage warehouse with 8 double satellite stacker cranes
- Footprint is 176 x 100 metres
- Capacity of 100,000 pallets
- High bay area and despatch and order pick area down to -28°C
- > 900 pallets shipment buffer zone so minimal waiting time for trucks before loading
- 19 docks of which two are allocated for automatic truck unloading
- 24/7 operation
The Oomiak refrigeration plant serving the new facility is based on similar refrigeration system designs installed on other Newcold sites overseas with specific changes to adapt the design to Australian conditions and compliance requirements.
The facility includes three refrigerated areas (Freezer, Dispatch and Order Pick).
Oomiak’s work included the design and installation of refrigeration systems to support rooms capable of operating at temperatures between -25°C and -28°C.
The system installed has been designed to incorporate the most energy efficient technologies and benefits available including high efficiency compressors and motors, variable speed drives and specifically designed energy management systems.
Oomiak’s work also included the installation of the Wagner OxyReduct system. OxyReduct is a fire prevention system that makes sure that fires cannot develop in the first place by maintaining a depleted oxygen content within the High Bay storage area. This is achieved by the controlled introduction of nitrogen into the protected areas which keeps oxygen concentration levels consistently below the ignition threshold of the combustible materials inside.
